How do I measure art matting / photo matting ?
Sizing your mat board.
1.) Measure the artwork you wish to mat.
2.) Calculate you mat board's inner dimensions.
The inner dimensions of the window of the mat board should be 1/2 to 1/4 inches less than the dimensions of your art. This gives you some space on which to tape your art.
(For an 8 x 10 photo the mat should have a 7 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches window.)
3.) Choose the outer dimensions for your mat.
This dimension determines how wide your border is. Some pictures are enhanced by a larger border. If you have a frame this dimension is determined by the size of your frame.
4.) Choose your mat colors. We have 42 colors you can choose from and ALL of our mats are acid free.
